Chinese Pickled Beets

From Bill Houghtaling
1 c. sugar
3 T. cornstarch
(Mix above)
1 c. vinegar
24 whole cloves
2 T. ketchup
2 T. cooking oil
Dash salt
1 tsp. vanilla
(Add above & stir well)
3 cans beets (cut) (Add & stir)
1 ½ c. beet juice
Cook over medium heat for 3-5 minutes until it starts to thicken. Remove.
